Memorial Day

by Kevin Derrickson

Summer does not start until June 21st. But many people consider Memorial Day the unofficial start of the season. Many families will plan to visit their local Family Entertainment Center’s, fire up the grill or head out on a camping adventure. But Memorial Day has the word “memorial” in it for a reason.

The holiday got its start May 30th, 1868 as Decoration Day when Union General John A. Logan declared the day an occasion to decorate the graves of Civil War soldiers. Twenty years later, the name was changed to Memorial Day. In 1971, President Richard M. Nixon declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.

J&J Amusements will be closed May 25th in observance of Memorial Day. We ask that you to take a moment to remember those whom gave the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedom that we enjoy today, allowing us to do such activities as visiting our local Family Entertainment Centers.
